September, 2017
Dear 4th Grade Band and Chorus Parents:
Welcome to the Elementary School Music Program! Many exciting events are awaiting you and your child this year. Because so many changes occur at the 4th grade level, we are sending this letter to answer the most commonly asked questions about our program.
Rehearsals will take place from 10:25 - 11:05 . Band will be held on B,D, and F days, Chorus on A or C and E days. We are anticipating that band lessons will begin Monday, September 25th, our first band rehearsal on October 23rd and September 22nd as our first chorus rehearsal. Band members are to come to all band rehearsals. Chorus members will have a slightly different schedule in that one-half of the chorus (otherwise known as Chorus 1) will rehearse on A days, the other half of the chorus (Chorus 2) on C days, then both groups on E days. Even though this may seem a little confusing at first, schedules will have hopefully settled down by then and routines will be established. To help keep things straight, each student will receive a monthly calendar. The calendars will also be posted on the Elementary Music Department web page.
Under the drop down Calendar is the Elementary School Music Calendar for 2016-17. Please take a moment to write all the pertinent dates on your master calendar now to avoid any possible conflicts later on. Every member of our team is important. We rely on each other for our success. That is why concert attendance is MANDATORY. Emergencies do happen, however. If your child misses a concert, a written note must be sent to me the next day. Good excuses are on the level of: “My child fell out of a tree and broke an arm,” “We were in a car accident,” etc. Unacceptable excuses would be: “I didn’t feel like going out last night,” “We had to go to the mall,” or “I had to play in a Little League game.” (These were actual excuses.) We cannot stress enough the importance of attendance for all grade level performances. As concert dates get closer, you will be sent additional information specific to each concert.
Finally, concert attire consists of nice, dressy clothes. No jeans or t-shirts, please. Shoes rather than sneakers/gym shoes are preferred. Concerts are ‘special’ events and dressing appropriately helps to create a good over-all effect.
If you have any questions throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or [email protected]).
Sincerely,
Ms. Jeanine M. Beahan
